Yonah son of Amitai prophesied in the days of Yeravam son of Yoash (II Melachim 14:25). Hashem sent him to tell Nineveh it would be destroyed, and Yonah fled on a ship to Tarshish. A great storm came, he was thrown into the sea, and a great fish swallowed him (Yonah 1).

In the fish's belly he prayed (ch. 2), and the fish cast him out. He went to Nineveh, the people repented, and Hashem forgave them (ch. 3). Sefer Yonah is read at Mincha on Yom Kippur (Megillah 31a).
