Gartel גארטל
The gartel is the black prayer belt Chasidic men wear while davening.
Edit / add info"Gartel" is Yiddish for "belt"; it refers to the belt worn during prayer, mostly by Chasidim and a smaller number of non-Chasidic Charedim such as the Perushim of Jerusalem. Gartels are modest — usually black, sometimes white, possibly for occasions such as Yom Kippur — and woven from four to over forty strings.
The custom calls for a physical divide between the heart and the lower body when mentioning G-d's name, explained as the intellect governing the animal instincts. A gartel is also used at the mitzvah tantz at Chasidic weddings.
