Hashem created Adam on the sixth day of creation, 'in the image of G-d' (Bereishis 1:26–27), from the dust of the earth, and breathed a soul into him (2:7). He placed him in Gan Eden, and Adam named all the creatures (2:15–20).

Hashem commanded him not to eat from the Tree of Knowledge (2:16–17). After the sin of the Tree, Adam was sent out of Gan Eden (ch. 3).

His sons were Kayin, Hevel and Sheis (4:1–2, 25). Adam died at 930 (5:5). Chazal say he was created on Rosh Hashanah (Vayikra Rabbah 29:1; Sanhedrin 38b).
