Yisro (Jethro) יתרו
Yisro, priest of Midian, was Moshe's father-in-law; he joined the Jews in the desert and advised setting up a system of judges.
Fix / add informationYisro was the priest of Midian. Moshe fled from Egypt to Midian and married Yisro's daughter Tzipporah (Shemos 2:15–21).
After the Exodus Yisro heard of the miracles and came to the desert, saying 'Now I know that Hashem is greater than all gods' (18:11). He saw Moshe judging the people from morning to night and advised appointing officers over thousands and hundreds (18:13–26). The parsha of Matan Torah bears his name. Rashi brings that he had seven names (Rashi Shemos 18:1).
