Osem אסם
The big Israeli food company behind soup mandels, ptitim and Bissli, founded in 1942.
Osem is one of Israel's largest food companies. It was formed in 1942 as a joint marketing body for three noodle factories, taking its name from the Kohen Gadol's Yom Kippur prayer. In the 1950s it created ptitim ("Israeli couscous") for new immigrants, and in 1952 its famous soup almonds (shkedei marak). It began selling abroad in 1959 and is today fully owned by Nestlé; its products are staples in kosher stores worldwide.
