Noach was the son of Lemech (Bereishis 5:28–29). The Torah says: 'Noach was a righteous man, perfect in his generations' (6:9).

When the world was full of violence, Hashem told Noach to build an Ark. Noach, his family and the animals entered it, and the Flood covered the earth (chs. 6–8). Afterward Hashem made a covenant never again to bring a flood, with the rainbow as its sign (9:8–17).

His sons were Shem, Cham and Yefes. Noach planted a vineyard (9:20) and died at 950 (9:29). Chazal teach the seven Noahide laws (Sanhedrin 56a).
