Empire Kosher Poultry is the largest producer of kosher poultry in the United States. It was founded in 1938 in Liberty, New York, by Joseph N. Katz, an Austrian-Jewish immigrant; the Katz family ran it for its first five decades, recruiting rabbis from Mandatory Palestine and Europe and starting out in a garage. Its headquarters and plant are today in Mifflintown, Pennsylvania.
