Daf Yomi ("page of the day") is the daily study of one folio (both sides) of the Babylonian Talmud in sequence, covering all 2,711 pages in about seven and a half years; every day of the year is included, even Tisha B'Av. It was proposed by Rabbi Meir Shapiro at the first Agudath Israel World Congress in Vienna in 1923, and the first cycle began on Rosh Hashanah 5684. Per Wikipedia, tens of thousands learn it worldwide and over 300,000 take part in the Siyum HaShas. It is credited with making Talmud study accessible and unifying Jews.
