Boaz בועז

Boaz was 'a man of substance' from Beis Lechem, a relative of Elimelech, Naomi's husband (Rus 2:1). He saw Rus gleaning in his field, told her to stay, and had his workers leave extra for her (ch. 2).

At the city gate, before the elders, he redeemed Elimelech's field and married Rus (4:1–13). Their son Oved was the father of Yishai, father of Dovid (4:17). Chazal identify Boaz with Ivtzan, a judge of Israel (Bava Basra 91a).
