Shirayim ("leftovers") is the chassidic custom of eating food from which the Rebbe has partaken. In some courts chassidim line up for wine from the Rebbe's Kiddush or Havdalah; in others the Rebbe hands out fruit or nuts. Most famously, at a tish the Rebbe takes a small portion from a large platter, which is then passed among the chassidim so all can share. Sources link it to the verse "Blessed shall be your basket," and it expresses a chassid's bond with the Rebbe.
