Korach קרח

Korach son of Yitzhar son of Kehas son of Levi, Moshe's cousin, rose with Dasan, Aviram and 250 men against Moshe and Aharon: 'All the congregation is holy — why do you raise yourselves up?' (Bamidbar 16:1–3).

Moshe said Hashem would show whom He had chosen. The earth opened and swallowed Korach's people, and fire consumed the 250 who offered incense (16:31–35). Korach's sons did not die (26:11); from them come the 'sons of Korach' of Tehillim.

The Mishnah says: 'A dispute not for the sake of Heaven... that is the dispute of Korach and his company' (Avos 5:17).
