Aharon HaKohen (Aaron) אהרן הכהן
Aharon HaKohen, Moshe's older brother, was the first Kohen Gadol, known as one who 'loves peace and pursues peace'.
Fix / add informationAharon was Moshe's older brother (Shemos 7:7). Hashem sent him to speak for Moshe before Pharaoh (4:14–16).
He and his sons were chosen as Kohanim, and he was the first Kohen Gadol (ch. 28). His two sons Nadav and Avihu died at the dedication of the Mishkan (Vayikra 10). His staff blossomed with almonds, a sign that the tribe of Levi was chosen (Bamidbar 17:23).
Aharon died at 123 on Hor HaHar on Rosh Chodesh Av (Bamidbar 33:38–39), and 'all the house of Israel wept for Aharon thirty days' (20:29). Hillel says: 'Be of the disciples of Aharon, loving peace and pursuing peace' (Avos 1:12).
