History
Yosef HaTzadik (Joseph) יוסף הצדיק
Yosef HaTzadik, Yaakov's son by Rochel, was sold to Egypt and became viceroy there.
Fix / add informationYosef was the son of Yaakov and Rochel (Bereishis 30:24). Yaakov loved him more than his other sons and made him a striped coat; Yosef dreamed that his brothers bowed to him, and they hated him. They sold him and he was brought to Egypt (ch. 37).
In Potifar's house he held back from sin (ch. 39), which is why he is called 'Yosef HaTzadik'. In prison he interpreted dreams, and later Pharaoh's dreams of seven years of plenty and seven of famine; Pharaoh made him viceroy (ch. 41). When his brothers came to buy grain he revealed himself: 'I am Yosef — is my father still alive?' (45:3).
His sons were Menashe and Efraim (41:50–52). Yosef died at 110 (50:26). Moshe took his bones out of Egypt (Shemos 13:19), and he was buried in Shechem (Yehoshua 24:32).
