Tomchei Shabbos תומכי שבת

Tomchei Shabbos ("supporters of the Sabbath") is the name of several independent Jewish charities that provide food and supplies so needy families can celebrate Shabbos and holidays. Tomche Shabbos of Rockland County has distributed food packages since 1973, operating Thursday nights, and gave out 202,256 lbs of chicken in 2013. Others operate in Los Angeles (founded by three Orthodox rabbis around 1977), Bergen County, NJ, and many more cities, largely run by volunteers who deliver discreetly.
