Siyum HaShas סיום הש"ס
The Siyum HaShas celebrates completing the Talmud in the Daf Yomi cycle – in 2020 over 90,000 filled MetLife Stadium.
The Siyum HaShas celebrates completion of the Daf Yomi cycle, in which all 2,711 pages of the Babylonian Talmud are learned one page a day over about seven and a half years, with speeches, singing and dancing; the next cycle begins the following day. Daf Yomi was proposed by Rabbi Meir Shapiro at the first Agudath Israel World Congress in Vienna in 1923; the first siyum was held at his Chachmei Lublin Yeshiva. In the U.S., Agudath Israel booked Madison Square Garden in 1990, MetLife Stadium in 2012, and on January 1, 2020, the 13th Siyum HaShas drew a sellout crowd of over 90,000 at MetLife. The 14th cycle is due to conclude on June 7, 2027.
