Learning in every circumstance

Rabbi Elazar Menachem Man Shach was born in 1899 in Vabalninkas, Lithuania [1]. He learned in Slabodka, and it is told that as a young man he learned in great poverty, with barely anything to eat, without stopping.

Ponevezh

He moved to Eretz Yisroel in 1940 [1]. At Ponevezh in Bnei Brak he was one of the roshei yeshiva, and his shiurim drew students from around the world [1]. His "Avi Ezri" on the Rambam is a classic of lomdus [1].

Simplicity

He was known for his simple life: a small apartment, little furniture, all his time for Torah. He passed away in 2001 in Bnei Brak, over a hundred years old [1].
