Lipa Schmeltzer ליפא שמעלצער

Lipa Schmeltzer was born on March 17, 1978, and grew up in New Square, New York. His father, Reuven, escaped Hungary on the Kastner train; Lipa is the second-youngest of twelve children and studied at the Makova yeshiva in Israel.

After his wedding he began working as a badchan at weddings and bar mitzvahs without formal musical training. His first album, "Nor B'Simcha", did not succeed, but his second, "Shema" (2001) with producer JJ Fried, launched his career. Known for his round glasses, colorful outfits and comic videos, he brought a fresh style to Chasidic music and has released 19 solo albums; "Eluzer Lipa'le" was the first Jewish music album produced in Dolby Atmos. He frequently performs at benefit concerts such as HASC; songs like "Gelt" are widely known.
