A kvitel is a note on which a Hasid writes a petition and gives to his Rebbe for a blessing, for general matters like health, livelihood or success or specific needs like recovery, a shidduch and more.

It is treated very seriously and follows set protocols. Because of their sanctity, kvitlach are burned or buried rather than thrown away. The practice continues in all Hasidic courts today; kvitlach are also placed at the graves of Rebbes and tzaddikim, and it is an old custom to place them between the stones of the Kosel.
