Gateshead, in northeast England, is known in the Jewish world as a town of Torah. Gateshead Yeshiva (Gateshead Talmudical College) opened in October 1929 with two students in a small room of the local shul on Corbett Street, initially as a branch of the Novardok yeshiva network, with Rabbi Nachman Landynski as its first rosh yeshiva. It grew into one of Europe's leading yeshivos, surrounded by a Torah-centered community.
