In 1887 Electus Litchfield developed the hamlet Blythebourne where Boro Park is today; in 1902 State Senator William Reynolds bought the land next to it and named it Borough Park. Jews began settling in 1904–1905, and in the 1930s 13th Avenue was lined with pushcarts. After the war, Bobov moved from Crown Heights to Boro Park in 1966–67, followed over time by Munkatch, Ger, Belz and Stolin. By 1983 about 85% of residents were Jewish; Eichler's opened in 1987; a special zoning district came in 1992; in 2004 the neighborhood recorded 4,523 births, the most in the city.
