Mordechai Ben David (born Mordechai Werdyger, April 16, 1951) is one of four sons of the cantor David Werdyger, a Holocaust survivor from Kraków. As a young man he sang solos on his father's albums, which blended Chasidic niggunim with cantorial singing.

His first concert was in 1972 at Brooklyn College, for which he earned $50. A friend suggested the stage name "Mordechai Ben David" (Mordechai, son of David) to tie his career to his father's name. With 1974's "Hineni" he began working with Yisroel Lamm of the Neginah Orchestra, the start of his trademark sound.

He has released over 46 albums and performed worldwide, and has headlined many charity concerts, especially for HASC and Ohel. His son Yeedle Werdyger has produced his albums since 2001; his brother Mendy Werdyger runs the Aderet record label. Many call him "the King of Jewish Music", and his songs are still sung at weddings and Shabbos tables.
