Fix / add information

The Litvish shiur, especially in the Brisker derech of Rabbi Chaim Brisker, breaks a sugya into clear concepts ("two dinim", "cheftza and gavra") to understand the positions of the Rishonim.

Reb Chaim's derech

The Brisker derech was developed by Rabbi Chaim Soloveitchik, known as Reb Chaim Brisker, and later spread to yeshivas worldwide [1]. Instead of treating a sugya as one whole, one breaks it into its foundations and asks: what is the definition of this din? [1]

The "chakira"

At the heart of the shiur is the famous chakira: is this a din in the object (cheftza) or in the person (gavra)? Is it one din or "two dinim"? [1] Such a distinction can resolve a dispute among the Rishonim. In a yeshiva the rosh yeshiva gives the "shiur klali" to the whole yeshiva, and the bochurim prepare beforehand with their chavrusa.

A Chasidish view

A Chasid at his first Litvish shiur hears "two dinim" and wonders: will there be one kugel at the kiddush, or two? As they say in Brisk: it's a chakira.
