Leah was Lavan's older daughter; the verse says 'Leah's eyes were tender' (Bereishis 29:17). Lavan gave her to Yaakov at the wedding instead of Rochel (29:23–25).

She was the mother of Reuven, Shimon, Levi and Yehuda (29:32–35), Yissachar and Zevulun (30:17–20), and Dina (30:21). At Yehuda's birth she said 'This time I will thank Hashem'; Chazal say she was the first to thank Hashem (Berachos 7b).

Leah is buried in the Machpela (49:31). From her come the Kohanim and Levi'im (through Levi) and the House of Dovid (through Yehuda).
