Benzion Hakohen "Benny" Friedman was born on December 3, 1984, in St. Paul, Minnesota, where his father, Rabbi Manis Friedman, was a Chabad emissary; he is one of fourteen children.

Professionally trained in voice, he rose to prominence with his first solo album, "Taamu" (2009), released just after his wedding, and was the vocalist on the 2011 album "Nagila V'Nismicha" with the Nagilah Orchestra. His best-known hit, "Ivri Anochi" ("I'm a Jew and I'm Proud"), became an anthem for Jewish youth. Singing mainly in Hebrew, he tours widely and views his music as a shlichus (outreach) tool to bring Jews closer to Judaism.
