After the war Eichmann fled and lived in Argentina under a false name, "Ricardo Klement". After years of doubts and witness information, the Mossad under Isser Harel sent a team; the operation on the ground was led by Rafi Eitan.

On May 11, 1960 the agents seized him near his home in San Fernando, near Buenos Aires. They held him hidden for about ten days, and on May 20 flew him out on an El Al plane. On May 23, 1960 Ben-Gurion announced in the Knesset that Eichmann was in Israel.

The trial in Jerusalem began in April 1961, with hundreds of survivor testimonies. He was found guilty and sentenced to death; the sentence was carried out in 1962, still the only such sentence carried out by an Israeli court.

The trial made the world listen to the testimony of the Holocaust.
