Israel Votes on October 27: Everything You Need to Know וואלן אין ארץ ישראל דעם אקטאבער 27: אלעס וואס מ'דארף וויסן
A simple explainer, no sides

On October 27, 2026, Israelis will elect the 120 members of the 26th Knesset. A neutral explainer of how the election works.
In a week Israel votes. I've seen lots of people asking how it even works, so here's a short explainer. No sides, just what it is.
The Knesset dissolved on July 17, 2026, according to the Library of Congress. The election is Tuesday, October 27, for all 120 seats of the 26th Knesset. According to Wikipedia, the 25th Knesset was the first since 1988 to serve its full four years.
You don't vote for a person, you vote for a party list. Whatever percent of the votes, that's roughly the percent of seats. A party needs at least 3.25% of the votes, otherwise it's out.
A government needs at least 61 of the 120. No party has ever gotten that alone, so there's always a coalition. After the vote the negotiations start, and that can take weeks.
According to NPR, it's the first election since October 7, 2023 and the Gaza war. The last few years were full of coalition crises, including over drafting yeshiva bochurim, a subject very close to the chareidi community's heart.
After the 27th they count, and then the real game starts. We'll update.
Peace and calm for all Yidden in Eretz Yisroel.
