From Brisk to Yerushalayim

The name "Brisk" comes from the city of Brisk (Brest-Litovsk), where the Soloveitchik family served as rabbis [2]. There Rabbi Chaim Brisker developed the Brisker derech of learning [2]. His son, Rabbi Yitzchok Zev Soloveitchik, the Brisker Rav (1886–1959), escaped Europe, came to Eretz Yisroel and re-established the Brisk yeshiva in Yerushalayim [1].

The yeshivos today

After the Brisker Rav passed away in 1959, his son Rabbi Berel Soloveitchik became rosh yeshiva [1]. Today several Brisk yeshivos in Yerushalayim are led by his descendants, and hundreds of bochurim from America and Eretz Yisroel come to learn there [2].

A Brisker bochur

In Brisk every word of the Rambam is weighed like gold. A Brisker bochur doesn't ask what the Rambam says; he asks why the Rambam didn't say it differently.
