Рабби Йосеф Шалом Элиашив מרן הגרי"ש אלישיב זצ"ל

Rabbi Yosef Shalom Elyashiv was born on April 10, 1910 and passed away on July 18, 2012, at 102. He lived in Jerusalem.

Until his passing he was the paramount leader of the Lithuanian-Haredi community in Israel and abroad, and many Ashkenazi Jews regarded him as the posek hador, the leading halachic authority of the generation. He spent most of his days in Talmud study and gave shiurim in Gemara and halacha.
