The Diaspora Yeshiva Band was a famous Jewish band from Mount Zion in Jerusalem that created "Chassidic rock".
Fix / add informationThe Diaspora Yeshiva Band was founded at the Diaspora Yeshiva on Mount Zion, Jerusalem, by baal teshuva students from the United States, and was active from 1975 to 1983.
It blended rock and bluegrass with Jewish lyrics, calling the style "Chassidic rock" or "Country and Eastern". It won the Israel Chassidic Festival three times (1977, 1978, 1980) and had many hits, and was well known for its Saturday-night concerts at King David's Tomb. The band influenced later groups such as 8th Day, Shlock Rock and the Moshav Band. Fifteen years after it disbanded, leader Avraham Rosenblum revived it as Avraham Rosenblum & Diaspora.
